Anthony Barbieri-Low (Ph.D. Princeton University) is Professor of History at the University of California, Santa Barbara, specializing on the study of early China with a focus on technology and economics, legal texts, and material culture. He is the author of Recarving China’s Past: Art, Architecture, and Archaeology of the “Wu Family Shrines” (Yale University Press, 2005) and Artisans in Early Imperial China (University of Washington Press, 2007). He is currently working on a comparative project on scribal culture in early China and ancient Egypt.
