Beate Pongratz-Leisten

Beate Pongratz-Leisten (Ph.D. University of Tübingen) is Professor of Near Eastern Studies at the Institute for the Study of the Ancient World (ISAW) at New York University. She has published widely on the political, intellectual, and religious history of the ancient Near East, especially on materialities of culture, the formation of textual communities, the transmission of cultural memory, and ritual performance and ritual texts. Among her books are Religion and Ideology in Assyria (de Gruyter, 2015), The Materiality of Divine Agency (de Gruyter, 2015), and Herrschaftswissen in Mesopotamien: Formen der Kommunikation zwischen Gott und König im 2. Und 1. Jahrtausend v.Chr. (Neo-Assyrian Text Corpus Project, 1999).
