Sheldon I. Pollock

Sheldon I. Pollock (Ph.D. Harvard University) is Arvind Raghunathan Professor of South Asian Studies at Columbia University. A specialist in Sanskrit philology and Indian intellectual and literary history, he has published numerous studies including The Language of the Gods in the World of Men: Sanskrit, Culture, and Power in Premodern India (University of California Press, 2006); among his recently co-edited volumes are World Philology (Harvard University Press, 2015) and Forms of Knowledge in Early Modern Asia: Explorations in the Intellectual History of India and Tibet, 1500–1800 (Duke University Press, 2011). He also is the founding editor of the Murty Classical Library of India.
